FAQ

General Product Info

  • Tempeh is a traditional Indonesian fermented bean product known for its high protein and fiber content. Unlike regular potato chips, our Tempeh Chips are made from fermented black-eyed peas, offering a healthier, nutrient-dense snack.

  • Mamame Tempeh Chips are made from non-GMO black-eyed beans, fermented in-house over a 52-hour process. We use only pure, plant-based ingredients with no additives or preservatives. For a closer look at our ingredients and why we use them, please click here.

  • Our chips are proudly made in Indonesia, the home of the incredible Tempeh, as well as to our family for over 20 years. We have a dedicated team of locals, mostly women, producing them through a traditional, sustainable process.

  • Our Tempeh Chips have a shelf life of 12 months when stored in a cool, dry place. The 50g and 100g bags are resealable (good luck stopping yourself from finishing the entire bag in one go!). However, once opened, we recommend consuming within 3-5 days for best freshness!

Dietary & Ingredients Info

  • It’s never going to be as healthy as eating a head of broccoli, but absolutely! Our chips offer 10% protein and 12% fiber per 100g serving, which is more protein than 2 eggs and more fiber than 4 apples. They're a great choice for anyone craving a savory, crunchy potato chip but looking for a better alternative that’s more nutritious!

  • No…we’re a NO NASTIES zone! We only use natural ingredients - all the nutrition in our chips comes straight from the beans and natural seasonings. Tocopherol, a natural form of vitamin E that is derived from plants, is used to preserve freshness and prevent rancidity.

  • All flavors are 100% plant-based and certified Vegan by The Vegan Society, except for Cheese and Barbeque due to the seasoning.

  • Yes! Our chips are certified Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Vegan, and Halal, and made without seed oils, cooked in coconut oil. They are ideal for those avoiding soy or seed-based products.

  • Seed oils, like soybean, palm, or sunflower oil, are commonly used in snack production but can be highly processed and contain unhealthy levels of omega-6 fatty acids. At Mamame, we believe in offering cleaner, healthier alternatives, which is why we use coconut oil in our chips. Coconut oil is less processed, more stable at high temperatures, and contains beneficial fats like medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are easier for the body to digest and convert into energy.

  • Our chips contain tree nuts (coconut) and, for Cheese and Barbeque flavors, soy, due to hydrolyzed vegetable protein in the seasoning. Allergens are clearly labeled on the packaging.

  • Our chips contain carbohydrates from beans and tapioca flour, making them less suitable for strict keto or paleo diets but a good fit for a flexible, balanced diet.

  • Of course…kids absolutely love our Tempeh Chips! Since they’re packed with protein and fiber, and free from artificial additives, our chips are a better alternative to traditional snacks. They make great additions to school snack/lunch boxes!

  • Besides being certified Non-GMO, Gluten-Free, Vegan, Halal, we also hold ISO 22000, HACCP, and BRCGS certifications, ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. We’re also approved by the FDA in the USA, UK, S. Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand.
